We are very excited to welcome Louise to showcase her current Exhibition Regatta.
Regatta is a new series of sculpture and drawings which Louise has produced through a fascination with water and the works contrast the rigidity of stone with the fluidity of water; elements of predetermination and flukes in nature. The works are inspired by the eddies in water, borne from the pull of an oar. Despite the solidity and weight of stone the sculptures are anything but static and create a sense of movement and vortex as the viewer moves through the exhibition. The video and accompanying soundscape by Bennett Hogg bring an acoustic and visual clue to the exhibitions watery theme.
Louise studied sculpture with the Open College of the Arts in 1992, whilst working full time as a teacher. Leaving teaching in 1994, Louise was elected Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors in 2003 and became Fellow in 2014. She has exhibited widely including MOCA, Asthall Manor, New Walk Museum and Art Gallery, the Usher, Wysing Arts and Cheeseburn Sculpture. Awards received include the Brian Mercer Scholarship, Studio Sem, Italy, the KKV Bohuslän Scholarship, Sweden and the Year of the Artist Award, Arts Council England. Held in private collections globally, her work is also owned by the MOD Northwood, the RNIB Loughborough, Durham County Council, Somerset County Council and the Waldorf Astoria Bangkok.
